Domain name Flying.com sells for $1.1 million
When it comes to website development, having the right domain name could be worth a million bucks.UsedAirplanes, a company that sells seasoned aircrafts over the internet, recently acquired the domain name Flying.com for $1.1 million.
Mark J Horne, president and CEO of UsedAirplanes, says that his new website domain will be worth the investment because the word is commonly used in search queries.
"The word 'flying' is known and understood by virtually every person and the word is used in every area within the aviation industry", says Horne. "The amount of traffic Flying.com will generate will obviously enhance the amount of leads our brokers will receive for their used airplanes and aircraft. The brokers put their faith and trust in us when we asked for it and it gives me great pleasure to offer them this additional sales channel".
Horne says search engines Google, Yahoo and Bing process about 20 million search requests for the word flying every month.
In another sign of the value of a good domain name, website registrar VeriSign recently said it plans to provide a domain name trading service, according to Domain Name Wire. Users of this service will be able to trade in unsuccessful domain names for new ones on demand.
