YouTube makes website readjustment

Written: Apr 2, 2010 Category: Web hosting - Website
YouTube recently modified its home page to optimize navigation, according to an AFP report. Video hostingwebsite YouTube recently announced a significant redesign to make the site more user-friendly, according to an AFP report.

The website designers for YouTube, which is owned by Google, say they examined the way people interact with the site and modified the home page accordingly to reduce the number of links displayed by 50 percent. Now information about online videos is categorized on one side of the page and the other is designated to viewing suggestions that are personalized to the user.

The revamped website also features a so-called actions bar for sharing, embedding and flagging videos on the network.

Google product manager Shiva Rajaraman says that the adjustment provides easier navigation and is tailored to the way people interact with the website.

"We really felt like we needed to step back and remove the clutter," Rajaraman told AFP. "Changes are based on how people actually use YouTube."

Recently, Facebook and Twitter also made design adjustments to their websites. Facebook recently got rid of its "become a fan" function while Twitter now uses a computer algorithm to publish microblog posts on its home page.
