How is Tax/VAT calculated?

You can set the tax or VAT percentage you want to charge on your orders. If you choose to ship to different destinations, you can specify a tax rate for each destination, according to the tax rates of that destination.

Add a standard tax rate

  1. Log in to your One.com Control Panel and click Webshop.
  2. Click Settings and next Shipping, currency & VAT.
  3. Check the box for Calculate tax on orders.
  4. Enter the standard Tax rate percentage that you want to charge.
  5. Choose whether you want to calculate Tax on shipping.
  6. Click Save settings at the top of your screen.

Standard tax rate
If you choose a standard tax rate, no tax will be calculated on orders when you are shipping:

  • From the US to a destination outside of the state you are sending from.
  • From the EU/EFTA to a destination outside of the EU/EFTA.
  • From the EU/EFTA to a business with a valid VAT number within the EU/EFTA (VAT Reverse charged).

Add a destination-specific tax rate

You can also choose to set a different tax rate depending on the destination of the shipment. This will overrule the standard tax rate. A destination-specific tax rate can be useful if you ship to states with different Tax rates.

  1. First set a Standard tax rate as described above.
  2. Check the box for Apply destination-specific tax rates.
  3. Select a destination and enter a percentage for business and private customers.
  4. Click Add Row (Country) or Add row (State) if you want to add more destinations.
  5. Click Save settings at the top of your screen.

Note: the option Add row (State) is only visible when the shop is located in the US.

How is Tax/VAT calculated?

Tax is included in the price that you set for each product. This is the price that is visible for your customers in your webshop. This way your customers don't get surprised by "hidden costs" at checkout.

Example:

The price of a product is 24.00 EUR including 20% Tax. The price without Tax is 24.00 / 1.2 = 20.00 EUR. Your customer will pay 4.00 EUR in Tax. Shipping costs are excluded when calculating Tax.

Tax on shipping
You can choose to calculate Tax on the shipping costs. Then the shipping costs will be included in the total price over which tax is calculated.

Example:

The price of a product is 24.00 EUR and shipping costs are 6.00 EUR. Added together this is 30.00 EUR, including 20% Tax. The price without Tax is 30.00 / 1.2 = 25.00. Your customer will pay 5.00 EUR in Tax.
