Website launched for gamblers in Pennsylvania

Written: Jan 4, 2011 Category: Website
A new website is designed to provide help to problem gamblers. The Department of Health in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania recently launched a new website designed to serve as a resource for addicted gamblers.

The website, www.PaProblemGambling.com, provides a number of services and resources, including information about local gamblers-anonymous meetings and subsidised counselling options.

Visitors to the website can also find a risk assessment tool to help people determine whether they or someone they know has a gambling problem, as well as information for people affected by the actions of problem gamblers.

Michael Huff, acting secretary of health in the state of Pennsylvania, said gambling is an addiction for as many as 3 percent of the state's residents who gamble recreationally. "Even though it is simply a game for many, for some it can be a devastating illness that affects them and the people close to them", he said. "This new website offers a one-stop resource for people who may have a gambling problem and their loved ones seeking help".

The website complements existing services provided by the state, including its 24-hour, toll-free Problem Gambling Hotline.
