U.S. Attorneys General pushing for elimination of Craigslist section
U.S. Attorneys General pushing for elimination of Craigslist sectionRecently, attorneys general in 17 states in the U.S. have banded together and voiced their concern regarding the "adult services" section found on popular commerce site Craigslist. The AGs are pushing for the site to remove the section all together.
"We recognize that Craigslist may lose the considerable revenue generated by the Adult Services ads," said the attorneys general in a letter sent to Craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster and founder Craig Newmark. "No amount of money, however, can justify the scourge of illegal prostitution, and the suffering of the women and children who will continue to be victimized, in the market and trafficking provided by Craigslist."
After receiving and reviewing the letter, the Craigslist brass stated they agree with some parts of its content, spokespeople for the site relayed.
"We strongly support the attorneys general desire to end trafficking in children and women, through the internet or by any other means," Susan MacTavish Best, who handles media inquiries for Craigslist, told CNN.
Craigslist has come under heavy scrutiny lately after last year's revelation of the so-called "Craigslist killer" in Massachusetts.
