Twitter sees dramatic improvements from mobile apps

Written: Sep 3, 2010 Category: Website
Twitter has recently announced its success with mobile apps Expansion into smartphone technology has been proven successful for social networking site Twitter.

A recent post on the Twitter Blog explained how the website had addressed a previous issue with access to the social networking site via mobile technology, as none of the company's apps actually contained the word Twitter in their name. In response, the company created the Twitter for iPhone app as a result of an acquisition, and eventually introduced the Twitter for Android and Twitter for BlackBerry apps to focus on a more broad user base.

The expansion paid off. The company announced in its blog post that its site has seen a 62 percent increase in the total number of mobile users since mid-April. Mobile solutions have even led to a significant number of new registered accounts, as the site has seen a 16 percent influx of new users that register via their smartphone. Prior to the launch of the mobile apps, the company had seen just 5 percent of its users sign-up on a mobile platform.

Social networking sites are expanding rapidly throughout the web, as recent success among the websites, such as the location-based social media site Foursquare, have even prompted Apple to get into the market.
