Google to launch Street View functionality nationwide

Written: Mar 11, 2010 Category: Photo gallery - Website
Full Street View coming Search giant Google says that the full UK version of Street View is set to be launched this week, providing for a car's eye view of 238,000 miles of the country's roads.

Tech news website V3.co.uk writes that "businesses across the UK could benefit from greater exposure", and cites the case of a firm of estate agents who will use the service to provide their clients with more detailed information about properties that they might be interested in buying or renting. FindaProperty.com property expert Nigel Lewis told V3 that "we have provided the tool to our users since its launch in the UK, and to see it grow into one of the most indispensible tools available to house hunters is fantastic".

A limited version of the website has been available in the UK for some time, but until the upcoming launch, only select metropolitan areas are covered by the 360-degree photography.

The service has been the subject of some controversy after privacy advocates criticized the company for failing to offer adequate opt-out provisions.
