Google 'likes' Like.com to the tune of $100 million Recently, it was announced Google had purchased comparison shopping website Like.com in order to bolster the search engine giant's ecommerce marketplace. Rumors of such a purchase had circulated for nearly five years and further rumors speculate this merger will cost Google $100 million, according to the News of Today.

Google currently offers a comparison shopping site known as Google Products, however, this website has not seen any improvements or changes in a while and has also been in beta for a significant amount of time.

Originally named Riya.com, Like.com changed its name back when the more relevant domain name became available. Google offered $40 million for the company in 2005 but soon backed out of this deal for undisclosed reasons.

"We see joining Google as a way to supersize our vision and supercharge our passion", said Like.com CEO Munjal Shah. "This is something we are truly excited about".

Google's potential acquisition comes as its dominant share of search engine market slipped slightly in the U.S. in July, falling to 65.8 percent from 66.2 percent in June.
