Former editor of Birmingham Post to start business news website

Former Brum Post editor to go it alone Marc Reeves, the former editor of the Birmingham Post newspaper, is said to be preparing to launch his own business news website, described as a "Midlands version of TheBusinessDesk.com", by online trade publication Hold the Front Page.

While Reeves has not commented publicly on the reports, experts speculate that the new site would compete with Reeves' previous employer, in the same manner as TheBusinessDesk with the Yorkshire Post. The Guardian reports "that stories have appeared on The Drum, the Scottish media site he writes for, and on Jon Slattery's blog".

Hold the Front Page says that Reeves was recently selected to sit on the government panel to help select the companies that would own and operate regional news pilot stations, and that another of his previous employers - Trinity Mirror - was one of the contenders to secure one of those franchises.

Some suggest that new business media websites could spring up in some numbers over the coming months as the global economy continues to recover from the recent recession.
