Facebook launches new safety site

Facebook launches new safety site Facebook has recently launched a new website concerning online safety.

The Facebook site will include information and news regarding how to protect private data against hackers and ID thieves.

These measures are being implemented as a result of intense pressure from a coalition of privacy activists. In an open letter to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg earlier this year, the groups praised Facebook for its critical assessment and change of the site's privacy settings; however, they called for even stronger privacy protection. It appears they have been heard.

"Online safety is a shared responsibility", Joe Sullivan, an employee at Facebook, stated. "We'll continue to think of innovative ways to promote safety on our service and elsewhere on the web", he promised.

Facebook recently reached 500 million members, which implies every 14 people on earth have registered for the website. It is now the most popular social networking site online and one of the most-visited websites overall. In conjunction with the milestone, Facebook Stories - a site where users can tell a personal story involving Facebook - was launched.
