New website caters to older travellers
A retired couple from Scottsdate, Arizona, recently launched a website designed to provide advice and assistance to Baby Boomers who enjoy travelling the world. The site, www.theRoamingBoomers.com, provides travel advice, product recommendations, information about destinations, restaurants and hotels. The advice is geared specifically toward people at a stage in life when they have disposable income and time to travel.
David and Carol Porter, the founders of the website, were business owners who retired at the age of 50 and hoped to spend their remaining years travelling the world. But when the global financial crisis hit, the couple's investments suffered and they were forced to change their plans, the Porters told the Arizona Republic.
Realising they would need to return to the workforce, the couple decided to utilise their love of travel to create a new business. Roaming Boomers went online in February and has since found a solid niche in the world of social media.
"With the opportunity of building a new breed of online travel magazine, perhaps we could be a trailblazer", Porter said. "That's the adventure we're on".
David Porter founded his mortgage business in Michigan in 1991. After retiring in 2006, David and Carol moved to Scottsdale, Arizona.
