Using One.com File Manager

What is One.com File Manager?

The One.com File Manager is a tool for administrating files on your web space. Uploading, downloading, renaming and moving files – File Manager does the job for you.

Accessing File Manager

You can access File Manager from your browser.

  1. Go to our web site, www.one.com.
  2. Click Control Panel
  3. Enter your domain and password
  4. Click Log on
  5. Click File Manager

File Manager supports desktop versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer 9 and newer.

Files overview: Files are displayed alphabetically, and to differ between files each file type has its own icon.

Open and move back: Open folders by double-clicking the file icon or name. Move back between folders by clicking the breadcrumbs (folder icons / path bar) above the list of files.

Refresh overview: Make sure you have an updated view of files and folders in File Manager by clicking the Refresh button in the menu.

Creating a new folder

  1. Click New folder
  2. Type a name for the new folder
  3. Press return / enter on your keyboard.

Uploading files

  1. Open File Manager in your browser.
  2. Open the folder in File Manager where you want to upload your files.
  3. Click Upload files in the menu at the top.
  4. Select the files you want to upload, and click Open.

The files will now be uploaded to your web space.

TIP: In newer browsers it’s also possible to drag and drop files. Simply drag files directly to File Manager to upload them.

Managing duplicate files

If a file or folder with the same name already exists, File Manager will ask if you want to overwrite the existing file.

Downloading files

  1. Select the file you want to download in File Manager
  2. Click Download in the pane to the right.
  3. Depending on your browser settings, you will be asked to open or save the file.
    Click Save.
  4. Choose where you want to save the file and click Save again.

Your file will now be downloaded.

Renaming a file

  1. Select the file that you want to rename.
  2. Click Rename in the pane to the right.
  3. Enter the new name.
  4. Press return / enter on your keyboard.

Names cannot be . or .., cannot contain / or \\ and cannot be longer than 255 characters.

Copying a file

  1. Select the file that you want to copy
  2. Click Copy in the pane to the right.
  3. Number of selected items will be displayed in the bottom of your screen.
  4. Go to the location in File Manager where you want to copy the file to.
  5. Click Copy the item to this folder.

The file is now copied to the new location.

Tip: Move between folders by clicking the breadcrumbs (folder icons).

Moving a file

The easiest way to move a file from one folder to another is to simply drag it to the new location. Drag and drop is only available in newer browsers.

To move a file to a specific path:

  1. Select the file to be moved
  2. Click Move in the pane to the right.
  3. Number of selected items will displayed in the bottom of your screen.
  4. Go to the location in File Manager where you want to move the file to.
  5. Click the button Move the item to this folder.

The file is now moved to the new location.

Deleting a file

  1. Select the file you want to delete
  2. Click Delete in the pane to the right.
  3. Click OK to confirm that you want to delete the file.

Selecting multiple files

Actions that apply to one file can often also be applied to an entire group of files.

Options for selecting multiple files:

Menu: Either use the Select all / Select none feature in the menu.
Shortcut: Use the keyboard shortcut cmd + A (Mac) or Ctrl + A (PC) when one file is selected, to select all files.
Check box: Or just check and uncheck the box next to the file icon to add and remove files from a selection.

Viewing file information

Information about a file (size, modification date) is displayed next to the file name.

You can also view file information by doing the following:

  1. Select the file to inspect
  2. Look in the pane to the right. In this pane you will find size and when the file was last modified

If you have selected multiple files, only the number of selected files will be displayed.

View any file from File Manager directly in your browser.

  1. Select the file you want to view
  2. Click View in the pane to the right
  3. The file will open in a new tab.

If your browser cannot display the file, the file will be downloaded instead.

Editing a file

You can edit any .html file with File Manager’s built-in editor.

All files that appear as text for the editor can be edited, e.g. .htaccesss, .js, .php, .txt, .css etc.

The editor highlights the syntax and line numbers to make editing easier. The character set used will be displayed in the pane to the right.

  1. Open File Manager.
  2. Select the file you want to edit.
  3. Click Edit in the pane to the right.
  4. Click Edit in pane in File Manager.
  5. The content of the file will be displayed and you can view and edit it.
  6. Click Save to save your changes.
  7. When you are done editing, click Close editor in the pane to the right, or click the button Go back in the menu.

Note: If you try to edit the code from your One.com blog, Gallery or Web Editor page, you get a warning, and we recommend that you don’t edit or rename any of the these files.
