Using Cloud Drive
Imagine having unlimited mobile access to your files or to listen to your entire music collection on your smartphone. Imagine if you could share photos with one click on a link. Or imagine that your web space secured your computer’s important files with automatic online backup.
Cloud Drive can make your life both easier, more enjoyable and safer.
Cloud Drive is the place at One.com where your data is stored online. Data that is available in the Cloud is placed in One.com’s secured data centers, like your website and mail. From there, it is all accessible via the Internet.
In Cloud Drive, you can choose from two different levels of accessibility for your data:
- Available in Cloud and on client
- Available only in the Cloud
In this context, the client is your computer, your iPhone, iPad, or Android smartphone.
The green icon indicates that the resource is synchronized, and that data is available in Cloud and the client. The blue icon indicates that the resource is not synchronized and that data is only available in the Cloud.
Data being available in the Cloud and on the client means that the data exists in identical copies in both the Cloud and on the client. The client is for example your iPhone, iPad or Android smartphone.
Data being available only in the Cloud means that there is only access to that data when you are connected to the Internet. The data is not synchronized with the client and therefore unavailable on the client.
The primary benefit of making data available from both the Cloud and the client is that you always have access to the latest updated version from all your devices, whether you are online or not. Additionally, you can read, edit and share data wherever you are.
If you do not need unlimited access to a resource, however, you can save space and data traffic by setting a resource to be only available in the Cloud.
You can always make a folder on Cloud Drive accessible from your client by clicking on "Edit" and then specify which folder to sync on the client. Here you can also choose that folders should no longer be available on the client.
Synchronization and backup
Synchronization in Cloud Drive ensures that identical sets of data are continuously kept up-to-date with each other across devices and operating systems. In practice, the contents of your smartphone appear as a mirror of the contents of your computer and of Cloud Drive and vice versa.
When you add a file for synchronization on your computer, the file will also automatically be added to your smartphone, your tablet PC or any other device that is configured to synchronize in Cloud Drive. The same will happen every time you edit or delete the file.
For Cloud Drive to be able to detect any changes in your files and manage which version of your files that is the most recent, Cloud Drive features version control. Version control ensures that all your changes are saved and it continuously checks that your latest changes are properly recorded and synchronized to your device.
Cloud Drive always keeps track of the latest version of your files, regardless of where you created a specific file or where you last saved it. You do not have to keep track of different versions of the same document, and your data is also subject to automatic real-time backup.
From the One.com Cloud Drive File Viewer you can add folders to sync with Cloud Drive, so they become available from all your devices. You can, for example, add the Windows folder "Documents" in File Viewer.
Immediately after, all your documents will also be accessible from your mobile phone, your iPad or any device with One.com Cloud Drive Apps installed on it.
Easy to use
This somewhat technical description of Cloud Drive may seem complicated and inaccessible. But despite the fact that Cloud Drive is an advanced solution, it is actually quite easy and straightforward to use in practice.
It does not need to take more than a few minutes to get started with Cloud Drive. After a few clicks you have installed Cloud Drive on your computer and are well underway to create drives on your web space.
To get access from your mobile phone, download Apps for iPhone, iPad and Android in App Store and Google Play. Once you have installed Cloud Drive and set up the resources you want synchronized, Cloud Drive will run in the background, unnoticed and without interrupting your work. The system requires no maintenance or other actions on your part.
Mobile access to your data
When you open the Cloud Drive app on your smartphone, you are presented with a list of all the Cloud Drives that exist on your domain.
Each drive can contain multiple folders and files. The top bar of the app gives you one-touch access to your favorites, music and pictures.
To access the data that is in Cloud Drive only, an Internet connection is necessary. However, data that is both in the Cloud and on the client can be accessed from your iPhone, iPad, or Android smartphone even without an Internet connection.
Security in Cloud Drive
Any transfer of data between Cloud Drive and clients takes place via SSL (Secure Sockets Layer). SSL is a protocol for transferring private files, which uses keys to encrypt data. SSL protects your data, so that no unauthorized person can intercept data during transmission.
All data is encrypted before it is placed on One.com’s systems. All data that you place at One.com will be stored in replicated data centers to achieve the highest possible level of security. Data Replication implies that all data is redundant i.e. placed in two differently located data centers.
