How to write a web log
A web log is a chance for you to express your thoughts and feelings and to share these with family and friends. It's also a useful way to communicate with business colleagues and customers around the globe.
A webspace with One.com allows you to create one or more web logs on your own domain.
Whatever you use it for, however, your web log must hold your readers' attention. After all, if your readers switch off they're unlikely to respond with their own entries.
It's therefore wise to bear in mind that when you're writing your web log, there's an ever-present risk you might lose your readers' interest. This isn't something to worry about and it certainly shouldn't stop you proceeding: all you need do is follow a few simple rules.
Basic rules
As a writer, you want readers to understand you. Therefore, don't start typing until you've organised your thoughts. If necessary, make some brief notes about what you want to say and why.
Once you begin creating your web log entry write short sentences. Don't use words whose meaning you're unsure about, and limit your paragraphs to four sentences at most.
Finally, when you've finished, check your spelling, grammar and sentence structure. Then ask yourself whether what you've written makes sense.
Don't hold back
Don't let these basic rules hold you back. Sometimes the best way to start writing is to simply go ahead and do it. If you adopt this approach, always take time to read your web log entry through and be prepared to change it. This way you're more likely to get a positive response from your readers and generate enough interest for them to return.
